Oh my God, going to Bangkok over the weekend with my wife last weekend was AWESOME, SUPERB, WOW! Considering that it was our first time in Bangkok, it got pretty interesting with the locals as we kind of lost our way to the hotel and tried to get directions to our Hotel. We stayed at the First House Hotel, which was located along Soi 19. We kind of assumed that the hotel would be somewhere along the road, but it was actually further in a small road.
But damn, everything seems so inexpensive. And the shopping malls, sorry I mean MEGA BIG places to shop are great. The first day, after the challenge of locating our hotel, we checked in We immediately dropped our bags and left for Chatuchak weekend market. The market was HUGE, every shopping area here in Bangkok is HUGE. We spent about five to six hours just combing through the market area. You wouldn't believe the bargains that we got. And this market has really almost everything, they even have people selling dogs and kittens amongst the furniture, clothing and food. Speaking of food, the smells were wondrous, but if only we could eat it without any worries whether it is Halal or not. I bought amongst other things a pair of sandals for 89 Baht (about S$3.70). We kind of got into a shopping frenzy in Bangkok. After shopping, we decided to look for dinner cos by that time we had walked all of our energy off. So we took a Meter taxi from Chatuchak market to Baiyoke Sky Hotel area as, one of my wife's friends had mentioned that it was quite easy to get Halal food there. I tell you, these taxi drivers in Thailand must think that they are some kind of Michael Schumacher, the way that they were driving. After dinner, we then did some bazaar shopping at the nearby Pratunam area. The only complaint that I have is the lights that these shop owners use, they were simply HOT. After shopping around, we kind of discovered that our Hotel was just nearby to this area and it wouldn't be difficult to find food. And they have a 7-11 every 500metres or so. It's like mushrooms.

The second day, we then hit the major shopping complexes. And we thought that KLCC was huge, these shopping complexes actually put KLCC in the shade in their size.

They even had several Ferraris, BMWs and other car showrooms within Siam Paragon, which is one of the latest shopping malls around Siam centre. How they fitted those cars into the level 5 or 6 showrooms, will still be a wonder to me.

We went from Siam Paragon to Siam Centre, across to Siam square (again many small shops) and then across to Mah Boon Krong (MBK) shopping centre. It was here that we discovered that we had quite a bit (a lot actually) and had to look for a money changer, hehehehe. We started around 1100am and by 6pm, our legs were aching and we had to rest. Yes, us 20 something year olds were not able to take any more walking and had to rest. Luckily before the trip, one of my friends had advised me to wear shoes when we go shopping as we would be walking a lot. I must thank him again, as I would normally go on a holiday wearing my Teva sandals. We were pretty spent after our bout of shopping.

After that tiring time of shopping we went and got

dinner and then back to the hotel after that. No more shopping for us, hahahaha

On the last day, we were busy packing and after checking out we had some time to kill, so what did we do, we went shopping again. Hahahaha, what else was there to do anyway while waiting for our flight. We then went to A&W, which no longer exists in Singapore and we had some root bear and ice cream waffles, some things that we have missed from our Poly times.
When we got home, we both agreed that it was a great trip and Bangkok is beautiful, only a slight pollution of dust. And it was cleaner that what we had perceived before. I would definitely recommend my friends to go there for a short break. Heck, we wouldn't mind going there again......
